OUR STORY WeCareDXB is a student led platform founded in 2017 by Riva Tulpule, an Indian origin expat living in Dubai when she was 11 yrs. Through the platform, Riva has connected large number of Students, Parents, Schools, community organizations and Corporates to join her and participate in various campaigns that are organized through the year. Electronic Waste Recycling: It is estimated that over 50 million MT of E-Waste is generated I the world every year and less than 15% of it is recycled. The harmful gases, chemicals in E-Waste pose a great hazard as it contaminates the ground water, soild and air if not recycled and disposed properly. In summer of 2017 while moving houses, Riva came across drawerful of old broken phones, chargers, wires, camera’s, printers etc and after consultation with her mother and some reading, she found out that they cannot be disposed off in the bin due to the harmful effects of electronic Waste. She soon learnt that most household had a similar drawer and not many knew the right way of disposing this waste. This gave birth to the platform in summer of 2017 by launching a campaign creating awareness and facilitating recycling of Electronic Waste. Riva tied up with Enviroserve, who has the worlds largest E-Waste recycling facility in Dubai and with their support ensured all collected items were recycled in best possible way. After a collection fo 1 tonne of E-Waste in first year, iva was encouraged to continue and in 2018 she recycled 3.4 tonnes of E-Waste. In 2019 a team of 7 friends joined her and collectively with help of schools, corporates the team recycled a whooping 20 tonnes of E-Waste in just 1 month. After a slight slowdown due to COVID, the year end campaign in Dec 2020, saw over 60 students from 15 schools register and in a 10- day period collected and recycled over 2000+ devices. The Volunteers teams regularly visit the Enviroserve Recycling facility to view first hand and understand the process of this specialized recycling.
