Thailand and the UAE established diplomatic relations on 12 December 1975. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Dubai was opened in January 1992 followed by the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi in November 1994. Foreign consulates are offices established by a foreign government to represent its citizens and interests in another country. These offices provide consular services such as issuing visas, assisting citizens in emergencies, and promoting trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
