A health club (also known as a fitness club, fitness center, health spa, weight room and commonly referred to as a gym) is a place that houses exercise equipment for the purpose of physical exercise. A gymnasium, also known as a gym, is an indoor location for athletics. The word is derived from the ancient Greek term "gymnasium". Gymnasium derives from the Ancient Greek world gymos, which means naked and that's previously how athletes would train and compete in these open-air venues. This was not only for aesthetic reasons, to show off the athletic male form, but it's also thought to have been a tribute to the gods.
