The Al Hamriyah Sewage Treatment Plant is located in the Al Hamriyah Industrial Area of Sharjah. It is the largest sewage treatment plant in the emirate, with a treatment capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day. The plant was commissioned in 2014 and is operated by Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA). The plant uses a conventional activated sludge process to treat wastewater. The wastewater is first screened to remove large objects. It is then pumped to a grit chamber to remove sand and grit. The wastewater then flows to an aeration tank where it is mixed with air and bacteria. The bacteria break down the organic matter in the wastewater. The treated wastewater is then discharged to a clarifier where it is allowed to settle. The clarified wastewater is then discharged to the Arabian Gulf.
